The Noise in my head
If you’re reading this it probably means that we share a common appreciation for new sounds, new genres, and breaking the norm.
I really can’t tell you how I got here. I quit music over 10 years ago. But a sound in my head that I couldn’t get rid of pulled me back.
That sound was a unique blend of chopping samples, EDM arrangements, future bass drops, and soulful vocals. I had to get it out so I crafted the Shot Shoots Forever project.
From the Underground
I’m from the golden era of Detroit hip hop. Em was huge, Dilla was pushing the limits, and the scene was overflowing with talent.
My group the Athletic Mic League signed a deal with Barak Record and joined a legendary roster of artists including: Slum Village, Black Milk, and Phat Kat.
We released a bunch of classic music and I produced for some of Detroit’s all-time greats like Guilty Simpson, One Be Lo, Finale, Invincible, Miz Korona, Marv Won, Ro Spit and more…
Fun times…and the foundation for everything that I do to this day.
Oh You making apps now?
When I started, I got clowned for making beats on computers, but it was obvious this was the future. This would drive my sound and mentality.
As my AML group members went on to do great things (like Grammy nominations, and working with some of the most legendary artists in the world), I became more fascinated with how tech was shifting the music scene.
So I took my knowledge of creating things on computers and taught myself how to code.
Ironically, I was able to top the charts with my apps first — not the music.
I was cool with that, until the music pulled me back.
You're gonna do what, are you Crazy??!!!
The Shoot Shots Forever project is significant to me for what it means. The title is a personal reminder to take more chances, aim higher, ask for help, and not fear failure in the public eye.
That being said…
I’m putting myself out there. I have lofty goals for each song on the project. Some will seem completely insane and unrealistic and that’s cool with me.
I’m going to just keep shooting shots and see what happens. I invite you to watch the journey unfold.
It could be either one hell of an inspirational story or a complete train wreck. Either way, it’ll be fun, and (anyway) I got way more shots to shoot!!!
